PROBLEM STATEMENT
DESCRIPTION:
In the rapidly evolving field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, there is a growing need for innovative solutions that address real-world challenges such as energy efficiency, smart grid integration, automation, and sustainable power systems. The problem statement for this event encourages participants to identify existing gaps in current electrical technologies and propose practical, cost-effective, and scalable solutions. Projects may range from circuit design and power management to embedded systems and IoT-based applications, aiming to contribute to smarter and more efficient electrical infrastructures.
Problems:
1. Energy Theft Detection in Power Distribution Networks
Problem: Power theft is a major issue in many regions, causing economic losses and unreliable power delivery.
Challenge: Design a smart metering or IoT-based system that can detect unusual patterns in energy usage and flag potential theft in real time.
2. Low-Cost Solar-Powered EV Charging Station for Rural Areas
Problem: Lack of EV charging infrastructure in rural and remote locations limits EV adoption.
Challenge: Develop a cost-effective and scalable model for a solar-powered EV charging station that can operate independently of the main grid.
3. Smart Transformer Monitoring System Using IoT
Problem: Transformers in the distribution network often fail due to overheating, oil leakage, or overloads.
Challenge: Propose an IoT-based solution to monitor critical transformer parameters (like temperature, oil level, and load) and send real-time alerts to prevent failures.
4. Power Quality Monitoring in Smart Grids
Problem: With increasing use of nonlinear loads and renewable energy sources, power quality issues like harmonics and voltage fluctuations are rising.
Challenge: Design a system that continuously monitors power quality in a grid-connected environment and provides corrective suggestions or alerts.
5. Efficient Battery Management System (BMS) for Two-Wheeler EVs
Problem: Poor battery life and unexpected battery failure are major concerns in electric scooters.
Challenge: Develop a smart BMS concept that ensures optimal charging/discharging, state-of-charge estimation, and thermal management using AI or embedded systems.`
